Setting up
How do I set it up the first time?
- Fill the base. Unscrew the cap on the side of the base, fill the chamber with water, and seal it firmly. Fill it completely for maximum hold on smooth surfaces.
- Clip in the ball. Press the knotted end of the elastic cord into the recessed anchor collar on the side of the base, then run the cord out through the moulded side channel.
- Start hitting. Stand where the cord is just slack, and hit. The ball returns on its own.
How much space do I need?
Roughly a 3-metre clear radius so you can take a full swing without catching anything. A standard single driveway, a two-car garage, or any corner of a court all work.
Can I use it indoors?
Yes. Garage floors, gym floors and hard indoor flooring all work, and the rubber grip pads on the underside are designed not to scuff. Avoid carpet, which stops the base from sitting flat.
Using it
Will the base slide on my driveway?
Filled with water and resting on its grip pads, the base stays planted through normal drilling. If you are on very smooth polished concrete and it creeps, make sure the chamber is completely full and there is no water film under the pads.
The cord keeps wrapping around the base. What am I doing wrong?
Almost always one of two things. Either the cord is not running through the side channel, or you are standing too close so the cord never fully extends. Step back until the cord is just slack at rest and it will pay out along one clean line.
What drills should I start with?
Begin with soft dinks at a controlled pace to get used to the return timing. Once the rhythm is comfortable, move to volleys and hands-speed work, then drives. Ten focused minutes beats a distracted hour.
Is the ball a real pickleball?
It is an optic yellow outdoor ball with the standard 40-hole pattern, so flight and bounce match what you compete with. It is drilled and corded so it can attach to the tether.
Care and replacements
How long does the cord last?
The corded ball is the consumable part of the system and wears faster than the base. How long it lasts depends on how hard and how often you hit. When the elastic loses its snap or the cord frays at the ball, replace it.
Can I buy replacement balls on their own?
Yes. Refill packs are available in three balls or six balls, each with its own cord. The base is built to outlive many of them.
Should I empty it between sessions?
Only if you are transporting it or storing it somewhere that freezes. Otherwise leave it filled and ready to go. Drain it fully before putting it in a car.
